Taper: J. Parkin
Location: GA infront of the soundboard, standing next to the camera on the floor taping the DVD on Adam's side
Additional notes (by the taper): The show was much better than the previous
nights performance. Bono was in good connecting with the audience much better,
and Adam was walking about again. The show was being taped for an upcoming DVD.
You will never see me on it because I was standing directly under and next to
the camera on the floor in the GA. I was standing pretty much by myself for most
of the show until the encore. During the encore some guy with a safari hat and
orange shirt decided to stand really close to me, even though there was at least
10-15 feet between us and anyone else. I guess he never heard of personal space.
Anyway, he is the guy you can hear between the songs during the encore, at least
he stopped clapping and whistling for the songs, but it's not that bad. The
sound quality is very good.
Comments
A really solid and sharp recording with excellent sound quality. It sounds powerful, pretty crisp, with all instruments well audible. Overall audience noise is minimal throughout the show. The low-end seems to be more balanced than the previous recordings, in my opinion. Just note the recording is virtually flawless, as this is the "re-done version" by Jeff Parkin. The first version he released contained a few skips and hiccups in a couple of songs. He transferred the master again to offer this better version. However, there still are two hiccups at the beginning of Elevation, as if something touched the mics.
The show was filmed for an upcoming DVD. You can hear U2's Stage Manager Rocko Reedy telling about this in track-1, CD1. Show is very energetic and the crowd add their own participation. A snippet of Smashing Pumpkins' Bullet with Butterfly Wings popped up at the end of The Electric Co. A girl from the audience called Laura came onstage to play guitar in a somewhat messy rendition of Party Girl, with Bono on vocals.
