Recording Equipment - History

OKM II Rock microphones > Sony TCD-D7 DAT > TDK DA-RXG 180 min. DAT tape (master)

Taper: Jona

Location: outside the stadium, Edge side (left from stage), close to the bar of the stadium

Transfer: TDK DA-RXG 180 min. DAT master > Sony RMR-D3 (Digital I/O Adaptor) > Coaxial > Pioneer PDR609 > CDR-Master > FLAC

Additional comments (by Jona): Some fans (at least 15), were smart enough to go for a drink in the afternoon in the bar of the stadium. U2 soundchecked in the afternoon. The soundcheck was taped next to the bar of the stadium. After the sound check Bono went to the waiting fans outside the stadium to give autographs. In the evening a dress rehearsal took place.

It took me some time before I got the right place to tape, also the recording level was way too loud at the start of the recording, but after 5 minutes everything was under control, except the wind.

Comments

As Jona mentioned above, recording was done outside the stadium. Some people and a bit of wind can be heard, but music is always upfront considering it is rather distant. That being said, the tape is pretty good. A very interesting soundcheck with lots of attempts to Vertigo and Electrical Storm.
