Recording Equipment - History

ECM-MS907 mics + Sony MZ-R900 > Citronic Predator > PC > Soundforge > FLAC

Taper: Gary P.

Location: on the barrier just down a little on the right hand ramp on the inside

Additional notes (by the taper): This is my first ever attempt at recording a U2 gig and only my second ever recording of any show (the first being the previous night at a REM gig). I was situated on the barrier just down a little on the right hand ramp on the inside. It was a very last minute decision on whether to record the show or not as it was still daylight and the mic would have been very visible to security if I had gone with my initial plan to have my back pack strapped to the barrier with the mic sticking out the top of it.

In the end I went with Plan B. Which basically was having the mic sticking out of the top of the back pack, which in turn was placed on the ground leaning against the barrier. I had no idea if it would work or not but given the loudness of the sound system I knew I would get something. Thankfully at no point was the Back Pack kicked etc.

I recorded it in LP2 as it would have been too much hassle swapping disks out and setting the levels again during the encore. And besides I wanted to be able to enjoy the show myself. Of course I managed to stand next a girl who screamed hysterically like she was about to get murdered. And I must confess I came close of actually doing so a couple of times.

That all said I must confess I was pleasantly surprised by the results when I got home and listened to the recording. Anyways, if you decide to download the show I hope you enjoy it. Especially if you were one of the lucky ones to be there on the night. And if you weren’t then I hope you enjoy what was a great show. Ahhh All I Want Is You.... Fabby!!!

Comments

Second night in Manchester. This is a very good audience recording, with strong sound and nice clarity overall. Moreover, there's not much crowd interference. On the other hand, the output is a bit muddy due to the position of the microphones, so it lacks a bit of neat perception.

All I Want is You had its Vertigo Tour début.
