Recording Equipment - History
Church Audio CA-ST11 Cardioids > SP-SPSB-6 > Edirol R-09 (24-bit/48.0 kHz, Line-In, rec. level 25/30) > SDHC Panasonic RP-SDM04GC
Taper: Giuseppe Pastorelli (aka doublec)
Location: left side of the stage, 25 m from the stage, centered between left side stacks - glasses-mounted mic 1.65 m above the floor
Transfer: SDHC Panasonic RP-SDM04G > HD (via USB) > Audacity 1.2.6 (cut/amplified[+4.0 dB]/faded-out) > CDWave 1.97 (track splitting) > r8brain 1.9 (44.1 kHz resampling/very high quality 16-bit dithering) > TLH 2.4.1.160 (sector boundaries alignment/level 8 compression) > FLAC
Technical notes:
- I have amplified the whole recording (+4.0 dB) and faded-out the last 10 secs
- A possible microgap could have been generated by the recorder since Edirol
R-09 do not support track longer than 2 GB. For this reason I have manually
split the recording at the beginning of Crazy Tonight (I have used the
very same point to split tracks 14 and 15).
Additional notes (by the taper): Thanks to MLK for his suggestion (and for loaning his backup mics and battery box), I have located myself in a central position on the left side of the stage about 25 m from it with the mic mounted on glasses. I think it was a good choice because I always had a minimum 1-2 m distance from other fans and this had a positive effect on the quality of the recording . The quality of the sound is very good and I am very proud of this recording.
Comments
Excellent recording that documents the second night in Milan. The capture of music and vocals is clear and solid, so the output is really strong and sharp. Crowd noise is minimal and the live feeling is pretty good.
Stand by Me was played in full-band mode, and Party Girl appeared again (it was dedicated to Bono's daughter Eve, who came onstage during the song). Track 11 (Man in the Mirror and Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough) is just two Michael Jackson's snippets at the end of Angel of Harlem.
