Recording Equipment - History

Sony ECM-719 stereo mic + M-Audio MicroTrack II (@ 24bit/48kHz)

Taper: M!les

Location: standing pitch, central axis, midway between catwalk and soundboard

Transfer: MicroTrack II > USB > WAV > WaveLab (downsampling 16bit/44.1kHz) > CDWave > FLAC (SBEs aligned, verified OK)

Additional notes (by the taper): The retractable roof was kept partly closed which resulted in an echoey sound throughout the concert. An excellent show nonetheless, strong, powerful and definitely enjoyable!.

Comments

This is a second source of the first night at Wembley Stadium. Sound is very clear and powerful and there's not much crowd noise. However, this recording sounds slightly harsh and there is tiny clipping on occasion. Bono's voice is slightly echoed on a few songs but it gives a very nice live feeling.

Usual snippets appeared here and there, but note the next: London Calling and London Bridge is Falling Down at the beginning of Beautiful Day, Acquiesce at the end of Vertigo, and a line of Norwegian Wood at the end of Mysterious Ways. This last song, Mysterious Ways, closed a main set for the first time ever.
