Taper: MD
Location: about 100-150 feet from stage dead centre, facing Bono
Additional notes (by the taper): A terriffic show, appreciated by the band and
audience. This was my first time with this rig so it was taking a real chance.
The only problem I had was that it was recorded a bit too quietly.
The wav file as a whole was boosted by 26.67 db with a -2 db peak, any more may
have ruined the sound. There is a random frequency analysis from Trk 18 included.
If you do not like your audio boosted, please don't waste your time downloading
it. Nothing else was done to the files apart from the fades and the splits.
** Point of note. There was a sound failure during Walk on. This develops during
MLK and then the sound drops out for 1 minute during Walk On. This
was nothing to do with me, the whole stadium sound just disappeared!
The singing was fantastic and the crowd were pretty decent.
Comments
Very good audience recording overall. Sound is very clear and sharp, and crowd noise is minimal, and when audible, it is not too distracting. The only issue is that it sounds rather quiet, so it runs slightly thin. However, music and vocals sound pretty clean and upfront.
The Unforgettable Fire was dedicated to Simple Minds. The sound system experienced several dropouts during MLK with almost no music, but it was during Walk On when it finally died after a bunch of dropouts. Crowd then began to sing the chorus, and after a minute or so, the sound system was restored.
