Recording Equipment - History
Sonic Studios DSM-6L + Sony TCD-D8 > DAT Master (44.1khz)
Taper: Dana F.
Location: GA Adam side behind Red Zone (toward back front of side PA stack)
Transfer: DAT Master (D8 line out) > PC line in > EAC (record wav and tracking) > Cool Edit Pro (EQ bass down) > Har Bal (9% Wet balance curves) > WAV > FLAC
Additional notes (by the taper): This was my fav setlist of all 3 Canada shows. They sold over 50K GA tickets and Night 2 was even more packed than night 1. Would not think it was possible, so crowded it could have been dangerous. Took 25-30 minutes to go to the restroom while following a beer guy. No place to walk or stand through the crowd. I decided to go to the side almost behind the stage. Finally a spot with some breathing room and in front of the rear side stack. Not as much crowd noise as well but the acoustics were not as good here. Very hi bass and a little distorted sound off the PA. I EQ the bass down quite a bit. Then went back and hit the 80 freq again as this still had a larch bunch from Larry's drum kick and was a little fuzzy. Used Har Bal and smoothed out some of the "curves" on the freq to make it easier on ones speaker drivers. Added a little wet (around 9%) and boosted the hi's a tad.
Comments
This is a second source of the second of two nights in Montreal. It comes straight off the DAT Master, and offers very nice sound quality. Music and vocals come through pretty clear, strong and well upfront. The output sounds very full, too. The only issue is that slight saturation is noticeable on the louder parts of the show. Had it not been for that inconvenience, this recording would have been rated as a solid "exc".
