Recording Equipment - History
3rd gen cassette > Extigy external soundcard > Cool Edit > WAV > mkwAct > SHN
Additional notes (by John Telleria): U2's only Irish date during
1981, supporting Thin Lizzy at Slane Castle in County Meath just outside of
Dublin. U2 debut 6 tracks from the forthcoming album October. Bono and the crowd
sing "Happy Birthday" for Edge's girlfriend Aislinn.
A bit of cleanup was needed with this 3rd gen audio cassette recording. Cool
Edit Pro was used to normalize the audio to 98% and remove some of the tape hiss
without affecting the music. There is a slight edit 2:21 into Out of Control
and another 1:37 into Fire.
Comments
Decent recording of one of the closing gigs of the Boy era. Music comes through pretty well, in a very powerful way. Recording lacks some more cleaness and clarity, but is still very nice sounding. Ticks between most of the tracks can be heard all along. It's quite difficult to work out if Into the Heart was finished early by the band (just a couple of seconds after An Cat Dubh), or a massive skip has cut it out. Note that a couple of October songs were premièred that night, some of them with different lyrics.
