Comments
Fantastic soundboard recording of U2's appearance at the British music programme The Tube. This item is very clear, quite crisp. The only minor I can remark is that bass is very prominent. But this is still an outstanding recording, and a quite enjoyable show. Music and vocals come through very powerful, pretty loud.
U2 appeared at The Tube on March 18th, 1983, and not on March 16th, as reviewed in other sites or in U2-Live book (this error is corrected in the last edition, page 270). So the band played two shows on the same day (the Tiny Tees show, and back later at Leeds University).
The complete set was: Gloria / New Year's Day / Sunday Bloody Sunday / "40" / I Will Follow. This means that the recording is missing "40". This is not a problem, as "40" has never been broadcasted, it remains unshown. The show is quite energetic, this is one of my favourites, the band gave everything in their performance, enjoying what they are doing. A really strong set, and if you have seen the video of this recording, you will know what I mean. Around 25/30 people come onstage during I Will Follow to dance with the band.
Tracks 5 to 15 are the War and The Unforgettable Fire demos, as listed above. A quite enjoyable addition. The Unforgettable Fire demos seem to be vinyl-sourced, and first part of track 12 (The Unforgettable Fire - instrumental version) is ruined by scratches in the vinyl that disappear a bit later.
