Additional comments (by hatnham): There have been requests for this show so here it is. There is a version of this show in circulation but I'm not sure if it's the same source. Any commentary and comparisons would be appreciated. What I can tell you about this version is we were in the 1st balcony and noticed the taper. After the show we exchanged addresses and made a trade. This version is either 1st or 2nd generation. Overall very listenable, Wire is cut a little on the flip and there is a chirp between NYD & Pride from another flip. Clapping and crowd is a little accentuated because of the ceiling above but the recording is very clean with very little tape hiss. The crowd was nuts at this show. The show was stopped on several occasions to restore order.
Comments
As mentioned above, this probably comes from a first gen cassette, or maybe a second gen, that hatnham got directly from the taper. Overall very good sounding recording, with all instruments and vocals clearly audible. Audience noise is a bit intrusive in some occasions, with clapping and cheering near the taper. I have to add one more minor to the ones mentioned above by hatnham: a skip at 05:22 in Sunday Bloody Sunday.
The show, that sold out in a venue record of 18 minutes, is awesome, with band and crowd in high spirits. The band played a strong set with great audience participation. Heavy pushing happened on the front rows during I Will Follow, with some fans being mistreated by security men, unable to take control over the situation. The band stopped playing, while Bono claimed for the fans' security ("these are our people"). Then they resumed the song. Heavy pushing occured again during Gloria, with lots of fans climbing onstage to escape from it, and again the song was stopped. Bono asked to move back, while the whole venue sang "move back, move back". The song was resumed, too.
