Recording Equipment - History

Nakamichi CM-300 + Sony WM-D6 > Analog Master > Wavelab > CDR-Master > FLAC

Taper: JEMS

Additional notes (by JEMS): A trip down into the JEMS cellar yields this master from the early U.S. stage of the Unforgettable Fire tour. It's a fairly typical performance for the era, though one forgets how fresh this material ("Bad," "A Sort of Homecoming," "Pride") sounds on its first outing.
Fairly typical recording, too; better than most of the era, not our all-time best, but plenty enjoyable.

Comments

Brilliant recording from the master cassettes, by the 'JEMS group'. It offers great clarity and a crisp and full output. All instruments are quite well captured, featuring a nice mix between music and vocals. Moreover, there is a very nice live feeling added by the audience. This is the same source than the version that is around called 'A Call Not to Violence'.

U2 put on an energetic show, the performance is really strong. A riot starts in the audience due to hard pushing just after Sunday Bloody Sunday, where Bono begs the crowd to calm down.

There is a small edit between A Sort of Homecoming and Bad, that only affects to crowd noise.
