Additional notes (by Scott Zumsteg): Straight off the master tape, maybe traded out once or twice before. Sound varies from time to time due to too many people into small a place. Probably also why the big fight broke out in the middle of The Unforgettable Fire.

Comments

Pretty good tape overall. This recording features nice clarity and a strong sound. Music comes through quite well, with a good mix with vocals. All instruments have been captured very well, too. It just lacks a bit more of cleanness and it gets slightly boomy on occasion. From time to time, music gets lowered and after a few seconds comes back into its right position (this happens mostly in the first songs). Audience noise is sometimes too loud with cheering and screaming, a bit disturbing, but this only happens in a few occasions.

The intro track includes the promoter onstage announcing U2, right before 4th of July kicks in over the PA. During The Unforgettable Fire, hard pushing occurs in the audience, with a guy getting too agressive. Bono stops the song and asks people to calm down. He does a statement about not to violence and to celebrate, declaring that "we don't ever have trouble at a U2 concert". You can hear Bono very disappointed throughout the speech, and he really sounds angry. The band then goes to Pride due to its peaceful lyrics, so they don't resume The Unforgettable Fire, leaving the song incomplete. Pride is played twice, and this means that Wire is dropped out from the original setlist. Later, Bono sings bits of Satellite of Love during the first notes of A Sort of Homecoming, and again during the last notes.

Let's talk about flaws. A major is the heavy screaming from the audience, as I said before. Another crappy thing is that Bad re-starts at 03:29. The track is 15:41 long. It begins with Bono introducing the group and saying that they are from Dublin, Ireland. Then the sequencer kicks in, and the song starts. Just at 03:29, the track contains a feedback, and appears again the speech about Dublin and the band by Bono. So the song begins anew at this point. Finally, there's a noticeable edit after the second take of Pride, that cuts off the first few notes of the song.
