Recording Equipment - History

Realistic analog deck + mics

Conversion: First gen cassette > DAT > CDR

Comments

This recording features a powerful sound that brings very good clarity. However, it is somewhat dominated by the bass, which causes some bass distortion in the louder parts of the gig. It also appears soft kick-drum clipping from time to time. This makes me think that probably taper adjusted his equipment a bit high on the levels. Audience noise is audible, but not distracting. A soft hiss stays in the background, noticeable during the quieter parts of the show.

Bono dedicates Pride to a girl called Beth Lieberman, who had tickets for the show, but died earlier.

Final notes: I'd say my two recordings from this concert come from the same source: "Realistic analog deck + mics". This is from a 1st gen cassette, and Pittsburgh 09-04-1985 from a second gen cassette. Both sound really similar, but from some reason, the Pittsburgh 09-04-1985 title sounds crisper. On the contrary, this item (Lift Yourself Up) contains less problems of background noise or residue, and it is less afected than the other by the bass and kick-drum clipping.
