Conversion: Javi Dieguez

Additional notes (by Javi Dieguez): First night of the JT tour with a cracked Bono on vocals, short show. This set's not excellent, but still good... it has bass, treble, sounds fairly close. But it has also a bit of hiss and clarity could be better. Anyway, taking into account how bad versions out there for this show are, this is a nice 2CD set. I put this on CDR from a 1st generation XLII90 using my pro64 soundcard, no processing done besides normalization and smoothing of breaks. I could seamlessly join the beginning of SBS at end of side A of the tape with the entire song at side B.

Very nice tape that documents the first night of "The Joshua Tree Tour". The band put on a solid show, but Bono was unable to sing. He seemed to be highly affected by the hot and dry weather of Arizona, after some days of rehearsals for the tour there. He screwed up here and there while he tried to give his best.

The first track features the promoter Barry Fey reading a statement of behalf of U2, regarding Arizona's Governor Evan Mechum. Governor Mechum wanted to abolish the national holiday in honour of Martin Luther King's birthday in Arizona. Some artists cancelled their shows in Arizona, but U2 decided to go on but air their views about the issue. So that was Barry Fey who read it before the band took the stage, with statements such as "Governor Mechum is an embarrassment to the people of Arizona. We condemn his actions and views as an insult to a great spiritual leader".

Javi Dieguez said it all above about sound quality. The output is very clear with a solid capture of music and vocals. It just sounds tiny distant and slightly raw, although sound quality should be placed between 'VG / Exc" rating. Note Exit cuts in missing the first few notes.
