Recording Equipment - History
Analog 1st > Nakamichi CR-7A transfer > Peak 5.2 > FLAC
Taper: GS
Transfer:
JEMS - Recording equipment unconfirmed but cassette deck likely 'Sony D5'. "Unfortunately
40 didn't fit on this tape. I'll record it next time, allright?" So wrote GS
when he sent us this first gen copy of his master sometime around 1993. We never
did get that missing song and
when I transferred this tape almost two years ago, I also realized that no only
was "40" cut but that a few other between-song trims had been made to fit as
much of the show as possible onto one 90 min cassette, though no music is lost
save for the aforementioned "40". GS wasn't a U2 guy at all. In fact this
may have been the only time he ever recorded them. In listening to the recording
again today, I was impressed by how good it is.
Comments
This is a second source of the Brussels concert. This 'JEMS' source also offers excellent sound quality with a very crisp and solid sound. As occurs with the other source, crowd noise is audible but not really detracting, as sound is powerful with music and vocals well upfront. This 'JEMS source' sounds to me crisper and more full than my other recording of this concert (the so-called 'You Can't Be All From Dublin').
As mentioned by JEMS above, there are a few noticeable edits at the end of a bunch of tracks, it seems to 'save' space and fit the entire show on a sole 90-minute cassette. All these edits only affect to crowd noise and are placed at the end of The Unforgettable Fire, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Exit, The Electric Co and Party Girl. Note this recording is incomplete as it's missing "40".
