Additional notes (S.Z.): Recorded with some sort of non-professional deck and an external mic that had a high and low sensitivity setting. This tape is not great, this show has non linear speed issues (ie by adjusting one song to be correct, another will be off) that are caused by low batteries most likely, or a heavy master tape on the drum.
I found this tape by placing an ad in Goldmine, old schoolers will remember this game. This was the way I found most of my Lovetown's, either buying tapes directly from australians off the ad or having them write me. A girl wrote me from Australia who wanted to trade and told me innocently, all she had was the 2 Perth shows she recorded. While the equipment was non-professional, she did what the other 10,000 people each night didn't... she captured the show. Working off memory I want to say her name was Dee Ray, but I could be wrong, it was 16 years ago!
Comments
A decent tape of the second show of the tour, although it sounds a bit muddy. The recording is pretty clear and even solid, but still needs an overall cleaning. Tape hiss is audible in the quieter parts of the concert. Audience noise is present, but not really distracting, as they use to shut up during songs. Track divisions are absolutely seamless. Anyway, this is a real upgrade to all other "versions" of this concert in the trading market. There are a few ticks here and there, as well as skips (God Part II or Desire, for example) and blips between some of the tracks. The show is just outstanding, with long performances and improvisations during the songs, so it makes worthy to give it a listen. This is a nice review done by Justin Cook that explains some of the highlights that occured during this concert:
*The Edge plays a long piano solo during Running to Stand Still.
*Bono forgets the words to October from the very beginning and the problem compounds as he tries to start over without informing The Edge. This results in a chaotic display of mumbled words and botched notes. Eventually, Bono just starts to improvise and sings a verse that sounds cool but is essentially unintelligible.
*During Angel of Harlem, Bono begins to cover Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds. He makes it through the first verse, but as he comes to the chorus he shouts "Help me Edge!". The two of them combine to quickly close out the song in a less than memorable fashion.
*Bono improvises heavily during the last verse of When Love Comes to Town, seemingly making up the words as he goes.
A few small edits occur throughout the concert, such as the one between Desire and All Along the Watchtower, or between October and New Year's Day, with no major inconveniences.
