Recording Equipment - History

Toshiba Analog recorder > Stereo line in clip-on microphone > Analog master (TDK SA-90 cassettes) > WAV > Nero > CDR-master > EAC > WAV > FLAC Frontend 1.7.1. > FLAC level 6

Taper: Boyacrobat / George

Location: Second row balcony behind the stage between Bono and The Edge

Additional info: CD1 starts with the beginning strains of Where the Streets Have No Name, finishing with All I Want Is You. CD2 fades in with the crowd and Bono's speech, then People Get Ready and onwards. During People Get Ready, boyacrobat got bumped and had to restart, losing five or six seconds (at 3:33). At 6:38 the master tape jammed, creasing the tape and leaving its footprints on record for eternity.

Comments

Good recording for the first of seven shows in Melbourne. Sound comes through quite loud and clear, but it lacks more cleanness. It brings clipping in the higher parts as the tape is somewhat harsh, and it also contains a bit of rumbling background noise. As occurs in my other source of this show, crowd noise is very intrusive in some spots. All in all, I prefer this version over the other I have, as this tape brings better live feeling, and a more full sound, clearer than my other source. This is probably a VG- in the grading scale. A fantastic version of Running to Stand Still includes some lines from Waltzing Matilda.

A skip happens at 01:00 in When Love Comes to Town that cuts off a couple of seconds. Finally, With or Without You cuts out at 02:33.
