Additional comments (by Javi D.): so up to now a 1st gen was the best we had for this show thanks to Scott. Fortunately at least one DAT clone was made before the master was lost and I was lucky to secure a CDR made out of this clone not too long ago. Enjoy this excellent sounding show! I did not get this from the CD company but from an old school taper who's had a clone himself since the 90's. This guy also saw some of his tapes pressed back in the day so he was most likely connected to the bootleg company either directly or indirectly. He does not even know if the clone was analog or digital, or the number of digital gens down the line, but it's definitely never touched LP mode and has no noticeable diginoise. It looks like a clean digital SP clone to me. This one is not in LP, the spectrum goes well beyond 16KHz. My guess is this one was taped using 48Khz.
Comments
A nice recording upped to U2T by JD, which is an upgrade to the "first gen cassette" uploaded by Scott Zumsteg (that was the best thing we all had up to now). Sound quality is excellent, as it brings very good clarity and sharpness with a pretty audible bass, although overall sound is tiny distant. Audience noise is not a factor except for a girl screaming near the taper from time to time. However, this is one of the best recordings of the first leg of the tour.
As Scott remarked on the tracker, 'the tape that was never released if you could call it that...The same taper did the Lakeland, Miami and Austin that were commonly about on CDs in the mid 90s. This one never made it there probably do the fact during "Bullet the Blue Sky" a security guy is chasing him around the arena (because he was in the wrong seat) for about 1 minute, until the guy finds a new seat. Amazingly, you hear all of "Bullet the Blue Sky" through this. It's a really nice recording in the end. The episode in the middle of Bullet and the annoying idiot that couldn't find her seat the first couple songs prevented this from being silvered most likely. Also the taper paused the DAT for a second or two to tell the yacking idiot who couldn't find her seat to shut up before Even Better than the Real Thing.'
