Recording Equipment - History

Sony TCD-D7 + Sonic Studios DSM-6P > DAT Master

Taper: K.M.

Transfer: DAT Master > Tascam DA-20mkII (no SCMS) > Edirol UA-D1 converter > Macintosh G4 hard drive via Sound Studio 2.1 for OSX (editing, normalization, conversion from 48 KHz - 44.1 KHz, and track splitting) > FLAC

Additional comments (by K.M.): Periodic right channel problems throughout; patched when possible with left channel. Transition between discs is seamless. Sunday Bloody Sunday is a lengthy tease, started with Larry's signature beat, continued with Edge's guitar line, and reinforced by Bono's "ohhs" and singing of the song's first line. He then falls into extemporaneous lyrics, and back into a few a capella 'pleases' before the transition to Streets. Cel-phone conversation during Encore/Lemon is the taper/newspaper reporter calling in final tweaks to his story for the next day's edition of Eugene's The Register-Guard newspaper. Sorry, work=necessity, taping=bonus.

Comments

Very solid recording overall. Sound quality is excellent with music and vocals well upfront. However, it can sound tiny distant with a muddy low-end on occasion. This source doesn't seem to be the same than JEMS used to make his 'matrix / mix of two audience sources' for this gig, as he stated the taper was named MH, and the taper of the current source is named KM.

Some songs need more rehearsal, such as Gone, Staring at the Sun or even the classic Pride. The band did a full-band version of Staring at the Sun, and messed up on Until the End of the World. Note If You Wear That Velvet Dress wasn't played that night.
