Additional notes (by Scott Z.):
Evidently I am one of the few that
have clones of CPs Popmart shows. As old DAT tapers know, a DAT tape can be more
temperamental that a high maintenance girlfriend. One year they will play fine,
the next not at all, then two years later for some mystical reason they are okay
again. Long story short, tapers that wouldn't play a couple years ago for some
reason are playing fine in my setup now, this is why you never throw out a DAT
tape, cause you never know when it will work again.
Here is the bad news, I listened to this show today to make sure it did play
correctly, and my god this is probably the worst U2 show I have ever heard them
play, and one of the ones that must have been the back in their mind when they
say they were garbage at the beggining of Popmart. Nearly every song they
completely miss the intro cues, even songs like Pride, Mofo, Follow, Starting at
the Sun, Miami, Bullet are a mess. I am sure somebody will say this was the
greatest show they ever saw, but they were caught up in the moment.
Sounds is ok, not great, as it was not taped from right up front, and it was
that big old mono-pod PA on that tour.
Comments
Pretty good audience tape with very nice sound quality. Really strong output (although a little harsh) with a clear capture of the music, that comes through well upfront. Vocals are slightly lost in the mix. The main drawback is that crowd noise is certainly audible, with hard clapping and talking on occasion near the taper. And just add Mysterious Ways to the list of messed songs mentioned above by Scott Z.
